Bastelica

The village of Bastelica, which dominates the Prunelli valley, reaches an altitude of 800 metres. In the 19th century, the village experienced a period of great demographic and economic prosperity. In fact, in the 1940s, more than 4,000 inhabitants lived in Bastelica, and the landscape and architecture still bear witness to important activities. Throughout the walk you will discover the predominant place that the village occupied at the time, within the territory. This proverb testifies to this: "Sé Bastèlica t'avia u portu, Aiacciu ni saria l'ortu. If Bastelica had a port, Ajaccio would be its garden". The route begins under the gaze of Sampiero Corso, opposite the parish church of Saint Michel. It first passes through several gardens, formerly cultivated, then crosses the Prunelli to head towards the Tinosu path, an old transhumance path surrounded by sumptuous chestnut groves where we can discover the Travitacci Mill. The second part of the path winds its way through the narrow streets of Bastelica. Along the way, the walker will be charmed by the surrounding architecture, which bears witness to the history of Bastelica and its agropastoral origins: orchards, ovens, fountains and other engraved stones. Through this walk in the heart of the village, you will be able to immerse yourself in past lifestyles and the links woven between man and the environment.
