Bastelica Heritage Trail

The village of Bastelica, which dominates the Prunelli valley, reaches an altitude of 800 metres. In the 19th century, the village experienced a period of great demographic and economic prosperity. In fact, in the 1940s, more than 4,000 inhabitants lived in Bastelica and the landscape and architecture still bear witness to important activities. During the walk, you will discover the predominant place that the village occupied at the time. This is testified by this proverb: ‘Sé Bastèlica t’avia u portu, Aiacciu ni saria l’ortu. If Bastelica had a port, Ajaccio would be its garden’.

The route begins in Corso Sampiero, opposite the parish church of Saint Michel. You first pass through several market gardens, once cultivated, then cross the Prunelli to head towards the Tinosu path, an old transhumance route surrounded by sumptuous chestnut groves where you can discover the Travitacci Mill.

The second part of the trail winds through the narrow streets of Bastelica and, along the way, the hiker will be fascinated by the surrounding architecture, which testifies to the history of Bastelica and its agro-pastoral origins: orchards, ovens, fountains and other engraved stones.

Through this walk in the heart of the village, you will be able to immerse yourself in the lifestyles of the past and the links woven between man and the environment.
