Cogoleto

Sciarborasca, a hamlet made up of several localities, is situated on the heights of Cogoleto, just a few minutes from the town centre. It stretches out harmoniously at the foot of the Mount Beigua massif and, for these reasons, it is a renowned starting point for hikes that lead to the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (High Way of the Ligurian Mountains). In the past, the locality was a place of transit of timber from the woods to the shipyards along the coast. In this hilly area, where ancient rural and culinary traditions still persist, is the "Typical Ligurian Peasant House", an original country house of the past, renovated and turned into a museum in 1998. It contains many objects that bear witness to the life and work of the women and men of the past, such as the kitchen with all the utensils needed to process milk, the bedroom with hand-embroidered linen, the spinning and sewing room and the attic with work tools. The objects on display in the museum are the heritage of a not too distant past, which is an integral part of our historical and cultural background. Most of these tools were collected thanks to the collaboration between the inhabitants of the hamlet and the primary school. Nearby is the Ecomuseum, a route created to discover the ancient rural trades. This museum is the starting point for a proposed itinerary that touches on a number of sites of great interest for these themes, almost all of which are located in the main town of Cogoleto. We invite you to stop off at the "Casa Colombo" (Columbus’ House), which, according to a long-standing tradition, belonged to the descendants of the famous navigator, while the Bianchi kiln bears witness to an ancient and extremely important production activity in Cogoleto, destined to make it famous throughout Liguria. The towers of the complex defensive system of the fishing village are very interesting, to defend it from the numerous pirate raids coming from the sea, whose centrality in the life of Cogoleto is represented by the "fishermen's beach". We remain in the village for the splendid Oratory of St. Lawrence, the patron saint of Cogoleto, and finally we plunge into the deepest Ligurian hinterland, remaining in the territory of the municipality but at an altitude of more than a thousand metres, to reach the "Casa della Miniera" (House of the Mine) with its unmissable view of the Ligurian coast.
