San Colombano Certenoli

Along the Valfontanabuona state road, in the hamlet of Calvari in the municipality of San Colombano Certenoli, is the Lascito Cuneo, there is an important museum of Ligurian ethnography. The building itself contains a series of historical curiosities. Home to Domenico Cuneo, the man responsible for the first carriageway between Carasco and Cicagna, which in the mid-19th century reached Calvari, it was donated to the Municipality by his son, Battista. The present collection is largely due to the Cuneo family. The complex has three floors. The first floor houses the important "hall of memories", with what remains of the original furnishings of the residence and a very old book collection, including an edition of the life of Columbus written by his son Ferdinand and published in Venice in 1571. The second floor houses the civic library. It is on the ground floor that the ethnographic museum is actually set up. There are many important finds and reconstructed environments: the old agricultural machinery and tools; the wine and the cellar; the olive press and the wine press, the mill for cereals and chestnuts, the shoemaker's workshop and the old workshop. A more recent section has been set up to collect objects related to the Great War, and will be implemented with objects from the Second World War. The objects in the Cuneo Bequest are striking for their state of preservation and the reconstruction of the environment, which allows the visitor to easily contextualise the objects. The Cuneo Bequest can therefore be legitimately considered as the heart of a visit itinerary that will then be developed in the territory, in order to rediscover the original features of a civilisation, the rural one, which can be seen in the museum.
