Peri

The Peri Heritage Trail offers a shaded walk that allows visitors to discover or rediscover, as if time had stood still, the daily landscape and history of the villagers of yesteryear. It is a window on the way in which the community's living environment was developed, organised and exploited. The trail begins in the heart of the village, where the houses are clustered on the rocky outcrops. It follows the path of the water and takes the stony lane that crosses the village from top to bottom, emblematic of the size of the streets where pedestrians, mules and donkeys circulated. In the extension of this street-canal, we reach the mule track. Situated below the village, it allowed the old people to go and cultivate the terraces of Vignali, Baroni, Pitraghju... After fording the Aquatedda valley, the path goes up towards I Poghji before reaching the hamlets of Olmu and Salasca via U Stretoni. At Salasca, the path winds through the chestnut grove, a major place of food production in the Corsican mountains. Then it returns to the village by the "Genoese" bridge that spans the stream I Pantaneddi, and it is then that it takes the old main access road to the village. The dry stone walls that line the path were used to protect the soil from erosion. They also marked the limits of the properties, witnessing the humble work of the agro-pastoral society of which we are the descendants.
