The Civic Museum "Giovanni Marongiu" of Cabras brings together and exhibits some of the main archaeological discoveries of the territory of Cabras and is a unique opportunity to discover the history of the Sinis peninsula. The visit to the Museum is scheduled at the end of the proposed itinerary. From there, we leave by car for the small hamlet of San Salvatore. From Cabras, continue via Tharros southwest and take provincial road 6. After approximately 6 km there will be a sign to turn right towards San Salvatore. The tiny hamlet of San Salvatore is famous for being the movie set for several western movies in the 1940s - 1960s. Do not miss the visit of the small country church, inside which is an inestimable treasure: the hypogeum. A very ancient hypogeum that represents the essence of the Nuragic cult of water. After visiting the small hamlet of San Salvatore, take the car and go back to join the route on the provincial road 6. In less than 10 minutes you arrive in front of the church of San Giovanni di Sinis. There, you can park in the parking spaces and continue on foot. In San Giovanni di Sinis the first stop will be the visit to the Church of San Giovanni di Sinis, it is a visit of only a few minutes but one that is never forgotten. After visiting the Romanesque Church of San Giovanni di Sinis, continue on foot along the promenade heading south for 5 minutes. Opposite, we see a huge blue expanse, it is the beach of San Giovanni di Sinis, it is perhaps the occasion for a dip and a little swim. Once refreshed, take the road in a southerly direction and after about 600 m on the right, you can admire the ancient city of Tharros. Here, thanks to a professional guide who accompanies tourists for a tour of about 90 minutes, one can discover the events that marked the Nuragic, Punic, and Phoenician civilizations. At the end of the visit, at the exit of Tharros, continue on the marked path and visit the two coastal towers, first the Tower of San Giovanni opposite then, after about 10 minutes of walking, the Old Tower. Before returning to the village of San Giovanni, a swim on Istmo di Capo San Marco beach, better known to locals as Mare Vivo beach. After a short swim, it's time to eat. From the beach, go up the road and continue north. Here it will be possible to have lunch in one of the many kiosks along the route. An essential gastronomic reference for tasting dishes made with mullet and bottarga, possibly accompanied by a glass of Vernaccia. After lunch, return to the car park, in front of the church of San Giovanni di Sinis and by car, direction archaeological area of Mont'e Prama. To get there, follow provincial road 6 for about 5 km, at the intersection turn left and then continue on provincial road 7 for 5 km. The area is only visible from the outside because the archaeological excavations which retrace the history of the Sinis are still in progress; the Giants of Mont'e Prama come from this area and the statues are on display at the Marongiu Civic Museum. The last stage of the route will be the starting point: the civic museum "Giovanni Marongiu" in Cabras. To get there from the archaeological area of Mont'e Prama, cross the village of Riola Sardo along the magnificent Cabras pond. First, continue on the provincial road 7 then right on the SP66 for about 10 kilometers. Once in Riola Sardo, continue by car for 9 kilometers to Cabras, via Tharros where the museum is located. A room is dedicated, as mentioned, to the statuary complex of Mont'e Prama, dating from the early Iron Age and composed of six statues and four models of nuraghe, part of the whole complex which is for another part currently on display at the National Archaeological Museum of Cagliari, considered one of the most important archaeological finds in the western Mediterranean in recent decades.
