U Luvu

The spring of u Luvu was for a long time the only source of drinking water in the village. Its overflow was used for the crops below, and then poured into the washhouse of Funtana vechja. There is a second spring protected by a vault. It was not until 1905 that the village was equipped with public fountains. Running water was later introduced. The gutters (piobbe, acquidoti, riunaghji) and other basins (basche) were the object of attentive care, and in turn, the farmers (i campagnoli) scrupulously respected the instructions for using the water resource. This need for maintenance was vital for the maintenance of the economic activity. The bucket on the head, as in the past The spring known as "di U Luvu" has always been a place of passage and meetings. The women of the village would come and fill their buckets with very fresh water, which they carried on their heads to the village of Guaitella. Butter and perishable goods were usually stored under the vault in the coolest corners. Proof of the place of the fountain in the history of the town is the short battle that took place on the night of 16 April 1764, between a brigade of Pascal PAOLI's "Naziunali", based at the Bocca Pruna pass, and a Genoese militia that was responsible for protecting Bastia from the surrounding villages. Paoli's staff was then installed in Patrimoniu.
