St. Dalmazzo

In the upper part of the village is the church of St Dalmazzo. High up in a position overlooking Triora with a splendid view, this church is located in the area that was considered the safest, because it was the easiest to defend, in the entire village. Already mentioned in 1261, it was an integral part of a fortified system, described by the historian Giovanni Verrando, of which only a few traces remain today. Certainly, the people of Triora used to store foodstuffs in this fortification, in order to better defend themselves in case of sieges and attacks. Two confraternities frequented the church, with only one entrance and a bell gable: the "Madri Cristiane" (Christian Mothers) and above all the "San Dalmazzo" confraternity. The works of art it contained, of great value, have long since been transferred to the Oratory of St John.
