Rotonda del Ramaceto

There is a remote but easily accessible place in the highest part of the territory of San Colombano Certenoli that is breathtaking. It is the so-called "Rotonda del Ramaceto". This is a vast plateau, completely surrounded by the characteristic and unique semicircular shape of Ramaceto, not by chance the most characteristic and identifiable mountain in this part of the Ligurian Apennines. Up there you can enjoy unparalleled peace, but above all a breathtaking view. There is a notable picnic area where you can enjoy a pleasant picnic with friends. Man has frequented these places since time immemorial. It is no coincidence that not far from the roundabout an engraved stone was found, whose mysterious graffiti is still being decoded, but which probably refers to pagan cults. Apart from that, it is difficult to keep one's thoughts from such a pleasant place, which cannot help but wander down to the horizon, towards that immense sea that played such a large part in the lives of our forefathers. In fact, often even living in these parts did not exempt them from dealing with the sea. The sea was and is too important in the history and economy of Liguria. In those days, people often ended up being farmers and sailors at the same time, depending on the seasons, needs and requirements. Today, as in the past, this great blue mystery looms large, and it probably questioned our ancestors as it questions us today. What will I find beyond that line they call the horizon? Who will appear from that line, perhaps tomorrow, to bring prosperity, or war? The sea remains an even more unfathomable secret when seen from here, from the distant but very close Roundabout of Ramaceto.
