Savoi Paper Mill

A few kilometres from Masone, along the road leading to the Snake's Waterfall, an open space hides a ruin on the left. At first glance, it is striking for its size, but unfortunately also for the serious state of neglect in which it is found. These are the remains of the Savoi Paper Mill, one of the oldest and most important, not only in the Stura Valley. Its glorious and ancient history began in 1640, the year it was built. We are certain of its continued use until the end of the 18th century, while it was no longer in use from the 19th century. This history makes the Savoi Paper Mill certainly one of the oldest examples of industrial archaeology in Liguria. The four basins on the façade, used for macerating rags, the first step in the production of paper, are remarkable.
