The village in its landscape

Like many villages in the Corsican mountains, Peri is built on a rocky outcrop. The rocks on which the houses are built form a stable base that protects the houses from humidity. The large granite blocks in the walls of some of the houses bear witness to the strong mineral presence in this place. The houses are built in a tightly packed manner to preserve the surface area of the adjoining arable land, but it is undoubtedly the presence of water that was the determining factor in the establishment of the village community on this mountain slope. Indeed, the village is at the centre of a "fertile triangle" framed by two streams, and dominated by a mountainous massif from which many springs emerge, thus allowing it to make the most of the characteristics of its environment. Peri is a symbiosis between the geological base that supports it and the work of the people who have lived there. The names given to the fields, peaks and waterways reflect the landscape and its particularities, and sometimes they also evoke its history: Petraghju, Falcunaghja, I Pastriciali...
