Oil mill with visible wheel

In the hamlet of Richieri near Cervo, visitors can take a close look at a very interesting structure to understand the great skill with which our ancestors were able to make the most of natural resources. As is well known, olive-growing has always played a fundamental role in the development of Mediterranean civilisation. This mill is one of many examples. It is worth lingering over the large visible wheel, now increasingly rare in the panorama of legacies from Liguria's rural past. But, above all, in this case, the eye must fall on the skilful hydraulic work that conveys the water to the wheel. It is, in fact, a raised canal, with the presence of an arch, which dates back to the eighteenth century and is still perfectly functional. It is quite strange to come across a structure that is so old and so efficient at the same time, so much so that one wonders what extraordinary ability our ancestors had in designing and building works that are still functioning today.
