MC19 The Massa Diocesan Museum

The Diocesan Museum of Massa was founded by Bishop Eugenio Binini, who decided to use the main floor of the old bishop's residence as a museum. The first section of the Museum, opened in 2003, included two rooms dedicated to the 'Treasure of the Cathedral'. Only later, in 2006, were the sections devoted to works from the churches of the diocese opened to the public. The setting up of the exhibition rooms was preceded by a wide-ranging survey of the collection, carried out by means of a cataloguing campaign, which was followed by extensive restoration of the works destined for the museum.
