LU30 Church of San Leonardo in Treponzio

One of the many pretty villages you come across at the foot of Monte Pisano, in the Compitese area, is San Leonardo in Treponzio. The place-name Treponzio (from the Latin thripuntio), which first appeared in a document in 757, was used to indicate the 'place of the three bridges' or simply 'between the bridges'. Somewhat hidden among the stone houses and narrow streets, but still easy to find, stands the Romanesque church of San Leonardo in Treponzio, a small jewel of medieval architecture.
