LU21 Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo - Gattaiola

As archaeological finds testify, Gattaiola has been inhabited since Etruscan times, but the oldest records of its buildings date back to the late 12th century, when a document from 1187 mentions the church of Sant'Andrea and another from 1197 which refers to the construction of a monastery by the Commune of Lucca. A plaque on the façade of the church in over the walled-up north door commemorates an 8th-century building that was rebuilt in the 12th century and then restored in 1901.
