LI24 National Archaeological Museum of Castiglioncello

The National Archaeological Museum of Castiglioncello is located in Via del Museo 8 in Castiglioncello, a district of Rosignano Marittimo. The Museum is administered by the City of Rosignano Marittimo, in agreement with the Regional Administration of the Museums of Tuscany. Founded in 1914 by Luigi Adriano Milani, it was a pioneering example of a de-centralized museum, which hosted the convergence of items excavated from an Etruscan necropolis of the fourth through first centuries BCE. These objects came to light during urban construction works between 1903 and 1911. The museum fell into neglect, and suffered a slow decline until 1972, when it was closed and its collection was transferred to the National Archaeological Museum of Florence. In 2011 the museum was reopened.
