LI21 The Yeshivà Marini Jewish Museum

The Yeshivà Marini Jewish Museum is located in Livorno, in Via Micali. Opened in 1992, it offers documentation of the Nazi-Fascist persecutions, and an exhibition of sacred art objects salvaged from the Synagogue, which was destroyed during World War II, along with sacred furnishings, silver, and textiles produced by masters from Livorno, France, and Central Europe. Of particular interest is the precious wood-carved Hekhàl, which survived the bombings; according to tradition, it was brought to Livorno by Jews coming from the Iberian Peninsula. Also important is the collection of coral objects which bear witness to an activity, namely the crafting of coral, which was practiced by many artisans of Livorno’s Jewish community.
