LI13 Villa Mimbelli – Giovanni Fattori Civic Museum

The Giovanni Fattori Civic Museum is a museum complex opened in Livorno in 1994. The Museum is housed in the picturesque setting of Villa Mimbelli. This aristocratic villa was designed and built by the architect Vincenzo Micheli between 1865 and 1875, on the commission of the rich merchant Francesco Mimbelli and his wife Enrichetta Rodocanacchi. Damaged during World War II, after years of abandon and disrepair the villa was restored and opened to the public. Since 1994 it has housed the Giovanni Fattori Civic Museum, which contains a collection of paintings by the famous painter, and by other “Macchiaioli” and “Post-Macchiaioli,” while the nearby former barns are used for temporary exhibitions.
