GR03 The Etruscan Necropolis of Sovana – The City of Tufa Archaeological Park – Sorano

The City of Tufa Archaeological Park, opened in 1998, is comprised of three areas of great historical, archaeological, ecological, and environmental interest, which extend across an area of around 60 hectares in the territory of Sorano: the Etruscan necropolis of Sovana, the rock-cut village of San Rocco (near Sorano), and the rock-cut village of Vitozza in the district of San Quirico. The most significant remains are those of the Etruscan necropolis, scattered across the hills which surround the ancient small town of Sovana, but the Park also includes numerous important vestiges of Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages, such as castles, churches, fortifications and rock-hewn habitations.
