Archaeological site of Cauria: alignments of I Stantari and Rinaghju, dolmen of Funtanaccia - Sartène

On the territory of Sartène, the richest in megaliths, the plateau of Cauria will allow you to discover three sites among the most emblematic of Corsica. Classified as a historical monument, this place, which extends over 60 hectares, is home to the megalithic alignments of I Stantari, those of Rinaghju and the dolmen of Funtanaccia
A visit to the Cauria plateau, located 2 km from the sea, allows you to discover three major archaeological sites in Corsica: the megalithic alignments of I Stantari, those of Rinaghu and the dolmen of Funtanaccia, one of the most emblematic dolmens of Corsica, as highlighted by Prosper Mérimée. The alignments of Cauria are made up of menhirs, steles and statue-menhirs. Nowadays, they are located in a landscape organised by agricultural activities and show the different phases of occupation of the site. Even if research does not yet allow us to know with certainty their symbolic, social, commemorative and cultural functions, their construction bears witness to a powerful desire to mark a territory, exercised by a hierarchical society
