Houses, chapels, bread ovens, mills, the Bastelica trail invites you to discover the small heritage and to enter the history of the village and its inhabitants. Rural houses In Bastelica, the oldest houses generally have two levels: a basement floor for agricultural purposes and a raised ground floor, accessible by a step where the dwelling was located. The openings were small. The corner quoins were neat and made of cut granite blocks. In the 19th century, the shape of the buildings changed and they became more imposing. The basement is generally used as a stable, the dwelling is located on the ground floor accessible on the same level, a floor and attic for agricultural use. A moulded granite cornice is often visible. Even today, one can still see beautiful wooden entrance doors with two leaves and a semi-circular wrought iron transom where the owner's initials or the date of construction of the house can be read. The trace of the ancients In addition to these houses, the Bastélicais territory is full of remarkable heritage elements that can be seen in the stretti of the village. Numerous fountains and ovens line the landscape, and you can also stop and take the time to admire the details of the ironwork and the doors of the houses, which bear witness to ancient know-how. One of the architectural characteristics of Bastelica lies in the type of bread ovens. With the exception of some private ovens, these have the following characteristics: a gable roof with an overhang, supported by two wooden pillars. The façade has two niches. Built in granite, its entrance is generally composed of a millstone. The Tricolacci Fountain Its construction could date from the 16th century. Nevertheless, an inscription dating from 1930 can be seen. An extract from the deliberations of the Bastelica town council of 10 July 1933 comments: "A Bastelica company has undertaken to carry out the work in accordance with the desired indications, which should begin on 18 July and be completed by 18 August at the latest, in return for the sum of 10,795 francs... Remodelled in the 18th century and in the second quarter of the 20th century, the Fountain is located at the intersection of the two districts of Costa and Tricolacci, and is covered by a barrel vault serving two washhouses.
