LI09 Natural Oasis Palude Orti Bottagone

The Palude Orti Bottagone Nature Reserve is located in the Municipality of Piombino (Livorno). The Visitor Centre is at Km 6.700 of the provincial road SP 40 'Base Geodetica' Piombino - Riotorto. This Oasis is managed by the WWF and serves as a precious reminder of the former extensive marshes of the lower Val di Cornia, which disappeared following land reclamation. The Oasis participates in the Project for the Reintroduction of the Osprey, a protected species that nested within the reserve for the first time in 2019. It is a Site of Community Interest, a Special Protection Area and, since 2013, it has been a Ramsar area, i.e. a wetland of international importance.
