Built from 1703 onwards,the "Pavillon des Nobles Douze" was the residence of the elected representative to the Genoese governor of what is now known as "Haute-Corse".

Built from 1703 on a space where shops had been standing, the House of the Noble Twelve was the residence of the elected representative of Northern Corsica (now called Haute-Corse) appointed as a delegate to the Genoese Governor. Every year, twelve representatives were elected, and took up their position by turns for one month. The "Noble douze" of the month accompanied the governor in his visits and advised him in all matters. In addition, he was in charge of the maintenance and safety of the roads and ways. He held a power of decision in important trials and serious cases. This structure flanks the gatehouse, built earlier, which housed the Genoese soldiers’ guardroom and, on the top floor, the senior officer’s apartment. The restyling of the gateway which started in 1775 has significantly changed the structure. The guard room, rebuilt in 1778, was raised for the accommodation of the officers. In the 19th Century, the House of the Noble Twelve was used by the army. Under Napoleon III, it was the seat of the court-martial.
